Today my son left the house for school and the last thing he said was, "You are the world's meanest mom!" Talk about kicking me right in my stomach. He stayed home sick from school yesterday and wanted to stay home again. The problem was he wasn't that sick yesterday. His throat was red and he was coughing and I think it was important for him to rest but two days in a row? I don't think it was warranted and so now I am sitting here still stinging from the blows I received. Do I always do the right thing, no! But am I the world's meanest mom, I hope the answer is no. I know part of this is payback from what I put my own mom through, I wasn't always made of sugar and spice. And I know that he will probably come home and give me a hug and tell me that he loves me but in the meantime I am left to wonder why we lash out at those closest to us when we are mad.
I guess I will chalk this one up to the joys of motherhood and comfort myself with the thought that someday he too will have children and they will think he is mean also!!!
You are one of the best moms I know. It turns out that our kids don't have a clue how great they have it till they are no longer in our care. So yes, take it with a grain of salt. He loves you and he will know someday how great a mom he really has. You are amazing never forget that.
ReplyDeleteI bet you chased him down and tackled him w/ a "mean mommy" hug and the meanest mommy in the world kiss (or slurpy as Grandma Gwen would call it) and say, "That is right and don't you forget it."
ReplyDeleteHe can always come visit our house again to be reminded just what MEAN really is. hee hee "Uncle Jeff" is worse-est. Not me! Hee hee
I hope all ailments melt w/ the snow (but sooner) and the spring brings freshness to your lives!!! XOX
Oh 2 other thing (regarding favorite pictures from the past...) Jeff had 2 requests when I asked him about starting a family blog... 1) that ACDC be played (still trying to add it to playlist only not play, hee hee) and 2) that a picture of him camping with bulging biceps and girlish figure be published TO THE PUBLIC. :) Figured Josh would get a kick out of that. So...watch for it coming soon, to a blog near you!!
ReplyDeleteTara, What a great blog you have already! Thanks for sharing. Yep - you wouldn't truly be in motherhood if you didn't hear about how mean you are - at least a few times. But, even though that stings, remember how often you hear how "you are the BEST mom" and the "I love yous". Moms wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't say no once in awhile, even when it is hard to do. Love you! Karmen
